My favorite places to take tourists visiting San Diego are the Hotel Del Coronado and Balboa Park. I'm not sure if the Chuck Jones Gallery is still in the Gaslamp District, but they always used to have some cool animation cells and artwork. La Jolla is probably the best touristy-type beach in San Diego with lots of nearby places to eat (Ocean Beach is basically the stoner beach and Pacific Beach is the place to go bar-hopping near sand). If you have to choose among the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, or Sea World, I'd recommend the Wild Animal Park (though the zoo is adjacent to Balboa Park).
As for Vegas, aside from the Deep Fried Twinkies on Fremont Street, I got nothin' positive to say about the place.
