The decision was made a couple years ago to put all playoff games on cable,
using CNBC and USA as overflow channels for NBCSN and NHLN here in the
states. This is a nice bonus for hockey fans, who can get every game.

In the first round there are eight series to cover, and NBC has decided to
use the CSN feeds straight for the three series that have teams with those
rights. So when you watch the Blackhawks/Blues game on NBCSN, you're
watching the CSN Chicago telecast with Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk.

This seems overly cheap. It wouldn't be that hard to use studio announcers.
Or simply do something similar to what Turner and CBS does for March
Madness and create a standardized graphics package that goes across all
networks and work with Sportsnet to handle the first and possibly second
rounds. Given the general disregard NBC has for the NHL, I'm surprised they
don't cheap out on this, too.
