Supposedly since the first of this year, Service Electric-Allentown, without raising the applicable rate, jacked up the number of channels -- some of whom HD -- available through their lowest level of service (which dad has).
They've added basically every digital sidechannel the Allentown and Philly stations have, plus those full-time locally-based-but-not-SE-owned cable channels that got moved to digital locations years ago... without the HDs it doubles the number available on what's left of analog service... AFAICT there wasn't any move on the Feds' part to require these channels' availability (I'll bet they deny it if I ask 'em)... Still, the company requires a (free) low-end digital remote/box to see just about every channel I don't now pick up with our otherwise unused VCR... there's a 55% chance dad will b!tch should I just call SE to request it, free however it may be, 'cause it runs on "110", of course... (I'm just covering for the fact that I could be stuck with dad, who won't get better or worse, for a protracted time...) B -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
