This can only possibly make sense if the TNF is a temporary placeholder for
Tirico. Al Michaels may be even money to get to the end of his SNF
contract, but I doubt he goes beyond that, and Tirico would then step into
the premier NFL play by play gig. I guess he will have to miss Brazil, but
this also sets him up as #2 Olympic face, and stand by #1. And somebody
better call Dan Hicks, because Tirico will no doubt be handed golf if he
wants it (and he probably does).

In other words, Mike Tirico is not going to NBC to do Thursday Night
Football games; he is going to be the face of NBC Sports.
