Core Media Group, the parent company of Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment,
co-owner of the "Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" franchises, has
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York, seemingly due to
its chief revenue source, "American Idol," coming to an end this year (not
to mention the reduction in broadcast hours and the loss of Coca-Cola and
AT&T as sponsors):

Core paid the price for making "Idol" its dominant business--"Idol"'s other
owner, FremantleMedia, has the advantage of the Simon Cowell franchises
"Got Talent" and "X Factor," the acquisition of several smaller reality
shingles, the long-running soap "Neighbours" and its evergreen catalog of
game shows (from which ABC plucked "Match Game" today for its summer
schedule).
