I think HBO is starting to get a lot more churn, now that so many subscribers just watch for one series, "Game of Thrones", and it's easier to just add the service for a few months using HBO Now. That means they need to keep really popular fare spaced out over the year to keep people from dropping, and if they didn't think "Vinyl" would be a potential seasonal tentpole, it's outta there to make room for trying something else.
