I like Takei and respect his opinion, but for anybody to single out any one aspect of post-Roddenberry Trek as being unRoddenberry is a bit absurd. I suspect most of what followed after Gene's passing would not have been in keeping with his wishes/intent. Just as I suspect most of what will take place in the new Star Wars films won't be in keeping with what Lucas would want (he already voiced his opinion on Force Awakens). It is the nature of a franchise that whomever holds the keys to the metaphorical kingdom will customize and revise it. Since the Star Trek reboot literally reset the timeline, the argument could be made that nothing of Roddenberry's original can be considered "canon," except of course in the mind of Spock Prime.
