I'm surprised that Colbert got nothing. I thought that he would at least
get something, instead of Seinfeld for "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee."
Of course, maybe not a surprise but it's worth pointing out that "TDS"
blanked out after 16 years running of nominations. I also thought that
Rachel Bloom would get an acting nod (she'll have to settle for theme music
and best original song).
I find it interesting that Keegan-Michael Key is nominated for supporting
comedy actor when his name is in the title ("Key and Peele"). But this is
the first year that anyone on a sketchcom has claimed the lead (and Amy
Schumer should and did). What I am is relieved that "Billy on the Street"
did not get nominated for Variety Sketch Series--because it doesn't belong
there--it belongs in Reality Competition because it's a game show (and "LIp
Synch Battle" is nominated under "Structured Reality Series" instead of
Reality Comp--wha?).
Minor point of interest: People pointed out that in "Grease Live!" the
live audience was heard cheering everything but wasn't heard laughing at
the jokes, which was strange. It's nominated for sound mixing for variety
series/special and laugh track guy Bob LaMasney is listed as a nominee.
Shouldn't he have been hitting the laugh loops on every punchline, just
like he does at the Oscars (also nominated), unless the host says s/he
doesn't want his/her jokes sweetened? Isn't that something laugh track
guys don't need to be told to do--and isn't "Grease" the kind of show where
the punchlines are all so obvious?
