Reading between the lines, tonight's Late Show was also taped on Thursday, so
the case could be made that the slide backfired a bit. The American audience
is sufficiently self-absorbed that no mention of the Nice incident on Thursday,
and nobody will be bothered by the weekend.
Personally, I think mentioning tragedies can be very problematic in these
programs (non fake news division), especially when being selective about what
events outside of the U.S. get a mention.
Of course, Seth Meyers may talk about the Turkish unrest on Monday and I'll
look like a huge schmuck.

The Tonight Show didn't do it last night.

Tonight's show unfortunately opened with another slide explaining that the show
was recorded prior to the reporting of the events in France. It's the second
time that I've seen Colbert do this. I didn't see if the Jimmies did something
similar. These are new times that we're living in. -Stan
