The last gasps of the Stop Trump Movement produced some theatrics at the
Republican National Convention this afternoon. There is no real danger of
Trump's nomination being stopped, but it did look like the Stop Trump
movement had met the threshold to hold a roll call vote to change the
convention rules to unbind delegates and let them vote their own
conscience. The RNC refused to allow the formal vote (such a vote almost
certainly would have been defeated anyway).

Not exactly the high drama and stakes of "Julian Bond! Julian Bond!", but
interesting, and gave the TV news channels something to do. Though, I don't
think they did it very well. Maybe because they have had so little
experience doing real reporting, the cable news coverage I saw (mostly
MSNBC and some CNN) mostly featured floor reporters who not seem to
understand very much of what was going on, and were learning stuff as the
viewers were. Yes, this was a breaking story, but it was also foreseeable,
and had been for many weeks, so a little preparation would have helped them
do a better job. Also noticed that one MSNBC reporter, who looked to be in
his 20s or maybe early 30s, did not understand the reference when former US
Senator Gordon Humphrey called the RNC officials "Brown Shirts". Made me
yearn for "This is John Chancellor, reporting from somewhere in custody"
