On Aug. 1, VH1 Classic will be renamed MTV Classic, starting at 6 a.m. ET
with the recreation of MTV's first hour of programming on Aug. 1, 1981 that
has aired on previous MTV anniversaries and followed by the VH1 "Rock Doc"
"The TRL Decade" (that's "Total Request Live" with Carson the Tool, in case
you forgot) and an "MTV Unplugged" marathon. Which gives a clue to the
focus of the channel, which will be on the series that ended its
all-vidclips days in the 90s ("Beavis and Butt-Head," "The Real World,"
"Daria," "Laguna Beach," etc.) and not a steady stream of Cyndi Lauper and
Duran Duran:

I would hope "Remote Control" will be on the schedule.
The Viacom flanker channels have been going through some changes lately,
with MTV Jams and VH1 Soul rebranded as BET channels, the Palladia HD
channel rebranded as MTV Live and CMT Pure (formerly VH1 Country) renamed
CMT Music. I'm awaiting calls for TV Land Classic as TVL becomes more
Gen-X aimed, but those channels are already out there--they're called MeTV
and Antenna TV and Laff and Cozi and GetTV.
