But that is not a perfect parallel, because a gymnastics meet has more than two teams. In this case, it was not a boring blowout, there were lots of compelling story-lines, including a US storyline that just did not end heroically for Americans. It is more like a hockey game in which the network had been hyping two star players, and the game is close and dramatic but the two stars make a lot of mistakes and are eventually benched for the last exciting period, and the network decides not to show more than half the game and switches to the semi-finals of the breaststroke. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
