Maybe the casting will help us figure out how anthological (not sure if that's
a word) the new series will be?

I would like the idea of a non-Captain POV more if they were doing the
anthology approach, and this was one of those. It is going to be hard to resist
centering the show on the Captain (if whoever has that role is at all
compelling) as the series progresses (see "The West Wing")

Romulans were unseen before their first appearance in the original series, it
would be tough to pull off.
My guess would be a battle or conflict between the Klingons and the Federation,
as the new show is taking place shortly before the Organian Peace Treaty was
imposed on both sides.
While the talk for this series at one point was that each season would be a
different setting and cast of characters (like American Horror Story or True
Detective), it's starting to sound more like each season will be a season-long
story involving the crew of the Discovery.
It's probably just me, but with casting still underway, the turnaround for a
January debut strikes me as really short.

decade before the original series, and will take place in the "prime" universe,
not the JJ universe.
