I watched this through the 1980s maybe into the early 1990s. At the time, it was refreshing to have people having direct arguments about topics. This was before every cable news show became a shoutfest. Politically, I'm moderate. I found the only conservative panelist with insights were McLaughlin. I was frequently intrigued by what Eleanor Clift, Jack Germond and David Broder had to said. Fred Barnes was an empty suit and Morten Kondracke seldom had much to say. It's like McLaughlin wanted the conservative spot to himself and enjoyed having talented political foils.
