A fine actor who ultimately became a familiar face late in life thanks to LAW AND ORDER, he was a man who prioritized his faith over stardom. Respect. Addendum: I should note, that while the NY Times obit waffles somewhat about factors that contributed to Hill’s firing from MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, notably his wish not to work on the Sabbath, I can attest to his commitment to observing Jewish tradition. In the early 90s, when I did PR for Hartford Stage, Hill was offered the role of Shylock in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, and very much wanted to do it. Apparently LAW AND ORDER (very new at the time) was willing to release him for the nine week commitment. As it happened, however, the production fell across the fall Jewish holidays that year; because Hartford didn’t carry understudies, and Hill would miss so many performances for observance, it was decided that he couldn’t do the show, which was unfortunate. That said, the actor who ultimately played Shylock in that production was the great Mike Nussbaum. So it worked out. -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
