Maybe you're hanging around the wrong places.

"The internet," at heart, is a method of connecting computers. (Of course,
"computers" now includes a wide variety of devices.) It allows people to
carry on intelligent conversations, or stupid ones. It provides us with
access to an astounding array of information. It even makes it possible for
a group of people who'd have never met each other to carry on a rational
discussion of television.

Yeah, anyone can get on the Net - rightists, leftists, racists, feminists,
Amy Grant fans. Ultimately, if your online experience is full of
disagreeable people and/or opinions, it's incumbent on you to adjust your
online experience.
