Discovery Canada (History, HGTV, etc) has a 12 Marathons of Christmas or some such promotion every year.

If you're entertaining, or just having a few folks over, and there are kids or you just want some sort of background noise, you could do worse than a Mythbusters marathon or Counting Cars marathon, etc.

I do get that you don't go to someone else's house to socialize infront of the TV (around the holidays)

There are a lot of parties on December evenings, particularly corporate and non-profit organization holiday parties. And the network or cable channel is often counterprogramming to a Christmas classic and the ratings don't justify a new episode.
