The flashback at the start was completely unnecessary and added nothing to the plot. He cooked breakfast. So what. He attended a meeting. So what. They ruined an otherwise decent pilot because of the bullsh*t notion that non-linear storytelling is somehow more artistic. All the flashback did was slow down the intensity, and the intensity is the crux of a story about an attack of the scale depicted.
