A lot of kids there see fighting as a way out of their life the way urban kids here view sports as a way out of their life. I'm in no way defending or condoning it, but it is a foreign culture with different perspectives, and at the risk of sounding like the Prime Directive from Star Trek, it might not be fair to ascribe our cultural norms to theirs.
