While some still exist, most faxes are done by computer today. My library sells fax service and a printer/Fax machine is used for it. Anyone younger than 2400 baud modem days always asks what that strange noise it is making. [old school modem module.]
It's strange that this technology will not die. When I was working in the 70s they still had a stylus fax machine that used thermal paper and scanned line by line. You had to put the faxes in a light proof folder, If left out on a desk they would rapidly turn black and you could no longer read them.
