To the original post: the entire news media did a horrible job covering the 2016 election. This is the kind of failure that challenges the credibility of any news organization. But no organization is going to hold their own people to account and so they continue as there has not been a radical shift in governance and norms. So I think it is a good thing for any news organization to get rid of old political commentators. George Will and Cal Thomas had something to say 30 or 40 years ago. Marvin Kalb is 86 and I don't know when the last time he had a timely comment to make.
