Whereas with the BAFTA awards, which were also on Sunday just gone, they do exactly what Steve feared they might be doing. The awards actually run from 6.45pm - 9.30pm, but they're aired between 9pm - 11pm.
What this insanity means is that social media is full of details of the award winners way ahead of you actually seeing them on TV. And yes, there is coverage of the red carpet, except that is live for the hour or so before the awards start. So then there's an awkward two hour TV gap. As with the Grammys, there are more awards handed out than will comfortably fit into a live broadcast. They've been broadcasting these awards on delay for years, and despite the growth of social media, and spoilers everywhere should you pick up your phone or laptop during the broadcast, they continue to televise them this way. It annoys me so much that I just ignore them on TV, glancing at the full list of winners online at an appropriate point.
