Some of you may have wondered about the methods, since there are notable
differences between the late night schedule in 2017 and in 1993.
>From the Politico article (about the 2017 numbers):The George Mason study
>looked at 2,094 jokes told on Colbert's, Fallon's, Kimmel's and Noah's
>programs from Jan. 20 through April 29.
Now back in 1993, only two of those four shows were around, and Letterman
started at CBS about 7 months into the Clinton administration.
per the press release on the 'study' that Politico linked to
(http://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000015b-d5de-de78-a1fb-f5ffc60c0000)
Note: In 1993, 2001, and 2009, the sample of late night comedians/hosts
included Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Conan O’Brien. In addition, the 1993
sample included Arsenio Hall, the 2001 sample included Bill Maher, and the 2009
sample included Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon.
If the note is accurate, I'm not keen on the underlying data as it's
inconsistent about what programs/comedians are counted.
Regrettably the Center's website is not the greatest (nor are their PR
writers), and I cannot access the data they have been collecting on late night
