A lot of the mainstream entertainment tabloids/websites/blogs don't even
pay for the writers -- they pay in "exposure" which is fine if you're just
starting out but devastating if you're a veteran journalist

Last week one of my Christian friends on Facebook posted a query about
whether Jesus' or Jesus's was correct. I briefly explained the distinctions
according to the AP Style Guide and the Chicago Manual of Style. The number
of uninformed responses was disheartening (the worst being "whichever one
sounds right when spoken"). We have "reporters" who never took a copy
editing class and have never seen a style manual, and there is nobody to
proofread what they submit to major publications. Again, disheartening.
