By the way, I can't find the thread now, but Mark Evanier once complained on this discussion list about the news media not reporting the death of someone in show business. I pointed out that no official source may have reported the death, like the coroner, a hospital or a family spokesman. Evanier's response was that everyone knew the person was dead. I use the whole Tom Petty debacle as an example of why some news services are so careful about reporting deaths.
