I was in the audience at SXSW for the screening of his film "Danny Roane: First Time Director" back in 2006. It was one of the weirdest Q&As that I'd ever seen, with Dick on his worst behavior with the audience.
To quote the Houston Chronicle story about it: The film festival, in its 13th year, devolved into a comedy show Saturday night when comedian Andy Dick turned a question-and-answer session into a raucous, profane stand-up act. Stand up? No, it was more like "run around." Or maybe "thrown down." It was all in keeping with the tone and comedy level of the movie he'd come to promote, his directorial debut: Danny Roane: First-Time Director. Andy Dick also wrote the story, in which he portrays an alcoholic ex-sitcom star who tries to make a comeback with a harrowing autobiographical drama that somehow morphs into a musical. At one point in the Q&A, announcing that he was going to have sex with his Danny Roane co-star, Mo Collins, she simulated a sex act with him. Later, they got into a wrestling match that ended with them on the floor simulating nonconsensual sex. The impromptu performance included comments from Andy Dick about bodily secretions, sex organs and audience members in wheelchairs. The huge cast of Danny Roane includes Ben Stiller, Jack Black, James Van Der Beek, Anthony Rapp, Bob Odenkirk and Maura Tierney. The questions after most screenings have to do with the intricacies of filmmaking or behind-the-scenes aspects. After Danny Roane, typical questions included "Andy, will you make out with me?"
