The main opposition to the CBS/Entercom merger, Ed Stolz, had sold KDND
Sacramento to Entercom and got a big case of seller's remorse after the
station's infamous "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest (a variation of the
Hands on a Hardbody contest that turned out to be fatal for one of the
contestants--the station fired the employees responsible, including the
entire wacky morning drive on-air team, but still had to pay the family of
the contestant damages after a lawsuit--the Entercom management in
Sacramento, NOT Entercom corporate). Stolz tried to get KDND's license
revoked, to which Entercom responded by taking KDND off the air completely
shortly after the CBS/Entercom merger was first announced earlier this year
(the Top 40 format was moved to another Entercom station in Sacramento).
Stolz tried to stop the merger by citing CBS TV actions (the Stephen
Colbert monologue where he called Trump "Putin's c--k holster"--even though
the phrase was bleeped and blurred, Stolz claimed that the fact that they
use wireless mikes still makes it an "indecent" broadcast--and alleged
biased reporting by the "Evening News" on the death of Rep. Scalise), but
the FCC seemed to look at this as grasping at straws.

Meanwhile, a bigger problem popped up in Boston, where there was much
surprise when Entercom announced that they were trading off one of Boston's
heritage stations, CBS' WBZ, to iHeart (along with their right-wing talk
WRKO and urban adult contemporary WKAF and CBS' classic rock WZLX).
Currently, WBZ, run by Westinghouse for decades before the merger of Group
W with CBS, is all-news from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and relatively-balanced 100%
local talk at night. Obviously, iHeart is not really known for either of
these things and it didn't help matters when they first announced that all
employees were going to have to reapply and that they were not going to
honor SAG/AFTRA contracts for on-air talent and news writers. As the
online petitions started popping up along with the Twitter hashtag
#SaveWBZRadio, iHeart changed heart and announced that they would honor the
contracts. It's believed that iHeart will take over WBZ and the other
stations by Local Management Agreement a week from tomorrow and that the
one-foot-from bankruptcy company is going to look for a new owner for BZ
ASAP.
