This rule came into play at the end of the New Orleans @ Minnesota game:

SECTION 8 EXTENSION OF A PERIOD OR A HALF
...
ARTICLE 2. PERIOD EXTENDED. *At the election of the opponent*, a period may 
be extended for one untimed down, if any of the following occurs during a 
down during which time in the period expires:
...
(c) If a touchdown is made on the last play of a period, the Try attempt 
shall be made (except during a sudden-death period).

It could be argued that the Saints' departure from the field, once Diggs 
scored, implied they would not choose to do this, given that even should a 
point-after attempt be blocked, recovered, and run back, the winning margin 
would have only been reduced to three.
