On Friday, I was unexpectedly away from home and needed to set my DVR to
pick up a show.

Much to my surprise the "record" option on the Xfinity app was gone. (I
later discovered that it was removed in late November.)

A quick Google search found the following message below. Yes, I had read
about Comcast losing the patent infringement lawsuit, but I had no idea
exactly what it meant -- the loss (forever?) of my favorite feature.
Anyone know if there's any hope for restoration? Do other cable companies
have this feature? And, if they do, will it be gone, too?

All,

Due to a legal ruling, for the foreseeable future we are removing the
remote scheduling of DVR recording features. We apologize for the
inconvenience, we are actively pursuing an appeal of the ruling.

If you’re away from your DVR box and cannot schedule a recording and miss a
show, check to see if it's available on XFINITY On Demand! We apologize
again for the inconvenience.
