“A Futile and Stupid Gesture” tells the story about the co-founder of the
National Lampoon, Doug Kenney. He also wrote “Animal House” and “Caddyshack.”
The film is clever and funny and moves along briskly. There’s also characters
not typically in the spotlight, like Michael O'Donahue and Annie Beatts. Paul
Shafer plays piano for Bill Murray.  Chevy Chase has a significant part and is
not shown as a douche. Hmmmm.
My main problem is Will Forte as Kenney. He doesn’t play a wise-cracking smart
ass well. I don’t know if it is Forte's problem or a script problem. And I
didn’t buy him in the serious scenes either.
But I recommend the movie. It’s on Netflix.
