so that's the article. I have no comment on that article.

The ramble that I wanted to write is regarding Tim Doyle.

Back in 2004 I was lucky enough to get a work trip to ~Pasadena (actually
Monrovia). The plan was project meetings Monday to Wednesday. Of
course, because of my first trip into LAX I told my co-worker "we're going
early.... I'll plan the extra curricular stuff". Santa Monica.
Venice. Batman cave. WB Studio tour. hiking to (near) the Hollywood
sign. TV tickets. etc.

Anyway, regarding Tim Doyle. The TV tickets were to Still Standing (Mark
Addy and Jami Gertz). We were randomly seated 1st row, almost centre.
We were seated to a very nice lady with her young child. We did not
question the age limit for attendance (wrt the child). Of course, a
30-minute sitcom takes 3 hrs+ to shoot, so we ended up chatting with this
lady and her daughter often during breaks. Eventually one of the guys
from the stage comes over to talk to the lady and be all daddy gaga googoo
with the kid -- it's Tim Doyle. The lady takes extraordinary effort to
tell Tim that my coworker and I are from Canada and love the show (honest,
we were fans and had told her that). Anyway, I can't remember much more,
but I sure as hell do appreciate the 'art' of a showrunner. My only
experience in running a show is being Meet Manager for swim meets -- a
weekend production in 4 hour sessions involving 400 athletes/actors and 40
officials/crew plus craft services.

trip commentary now....

Funny enough, the car rental company had upgraded us to a Cadillac. This
was great until we arrived at the work meeting (topic: hydrogen fuel-cell
powered energy efficient mining equipment) where other cars in the parking
lot were first generation Prius's. We were then declared as the energy
consuming Canadian pigs.

Me. Love that look? the T-shirt was a geocaching family joke, and the
pants... well those would ZIP-OFF into Shorts! perfect for Cali, right?????

btw -- if you are considering hiking up to the Hollywood sign, consider
time of day. We got within a few hundred yards (near the switchback near
Sunset Ranch Hollywood, and turned back in the dark. Scrambled down hills
like in C&W movies to Camp Hollywoodland in Bronson Canyon then back to the
Cadillac.

the next 'project trip' I had for that project I squeezed in Craig Ferg at
TVC.
