I love IMBD. I probably look at it 30 times a week. I was having problems with a smartphone battery and me and a friend were looking at my app usage of the battery as measured by Android and IMDB ranked third. My friend had not even heard of the site.
But as useful as it is, it’s still frustrating because there are gaps. Some big name actress (Jennifer Aniston?) was able to keep her name out of the IMDB list for people who appeared in a cheesy exploitation film. Her name wasn’t in the list, even though she had lines in the film, then it was included, then it was removed from the list. And there’s minor errors, too. Here’s a minor one. Mike Martinez is listed as the voice for Tito Jackson in the cartoon “Jackson 5ive.” https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0553639 That guy was actually my late former boss, Michael Martinez. He did the voice for the cartoon, got to meet Bill Cosby a couple of times (his mother knew Cosby well) and later met Michael Jackson in his late teens at a party. Jackson was weird then. Pretty much the same name for my former boss and this performer. So you can see how the mistake was made. The reason I bring this up now is because of the passing of Canadian comedian Mike MacDonald. I was going to post something on this group about his passing because he was all over TV in the 1980s and 1990s. But when I went to his IMDB page, it was sparse. Only 22 credits as self, although there were nine appearances on “Just for Laughs.” I didn’t have cable, but I saw a lot of him on TV. This morning, Kliph Nesteroff tweeted this clip this morning of MacDonald on “An Evening at the Improv” in 1988. It doesn’t show up on the IMDB list. https://youtu.be/LGJvddS73xk So I’m wondering if others share my frustration. IMDB is a wonderful tool but it’s disappointing when we see its flaws. With “An Evening at the Improv,” there’s sparse listings for the show. I know the database was originally built based on royalty payments performers received. Maybe there were no royalties for “An Evening at the Improv.” But I’ve seen MacDonald on many more shows that weren’t listed. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TVorNotTV" group.
