It's that time again and even though the actual presentation won't be until tomorrow morning at Radio City, here's the NBC fall schedule, which for the first time in years has the traditional first fall season announcement being as the top-rated network in the demo. The Wrap provides the schedule and the net's descriptions, which I will use only as a guide--Here we go (new series titles all-caps):
MONDAY 8-10 P.M. — The Voice 10-11 P.M. — MANIFEST--When an airliner lands after a turbulent flight, it seems like it's only a few hours, but in reality it's--five years (ooh-WEE--ooh-ooh).. "But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible." OK. The name here is Bob Zemeckis, making what I believe is his TV series debut with this show, produced by Warner Bros. and not owned by NBCU (not surprising, coming out of WB-co-owned "The Voice," with MGM and ITV's Talpa division). TUESDAY 8-9 P.M. — The Voice 9-10 P.M. — This Is Us 10-11 P.M. — NEW AMSTERDAM--Standard issue medical drama inspired by New York's Bellevue, which I think most people still think is an insane asylum from memories of Alice Kramden telling Ralph that he should be going there. A real doctor is one of the showrunners, if it makes a difference. In-house. WEDNESDAY 8-9 P.M. — Chicago Med 9-10 P.M. — Chicago Fire 10-11 P.M. — Chicago P.D. It's Dick Wolf Wednesday, with more crossovers than you can ever imagine. THURSDAY 8-8:30 P.M. — Superstore 8:30-9 P.M. — The Good Place 9-9:30 P.M. — Will & Grace 9:30-10 P.M. — I FEEL BAD--Although this week will probably manifest itself as the Return of Multi-Cam Sitcoms, NBC's only new show on Must-See Thursday is a one-camera show from Amy Poehler about a perfectly imperfect wife/mother/boss. In-house. For those who are wondering, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will make the official move to NBC mid-season. 10-11 P.M. — Law & Order: SVU FRIDAY 8-9 P.M. – Blindspot 9-10 P.M. — Midnight, Texas It's that show that ran last summer based on the novel from the woman who created Sookie Stackhouse of "True Blood." Remember it? Thought you wouldn't. 10-11 P.M — Dateline NBC SATURDAY 8-10 P.M. — Dateline Saturday Night Mystery 10-11 P.M. – Saturday Night Live (encores) We will assume that NBC will continue to air first-run "SNL" live in all time zones. SUNDAY 7-8:20 P.M. — Football Night in America 8:20-11 P.M. — NBC Sunday Night Football MID-SEASON AND BEYOND--DRAMA: THE ENEMY WITHIN--Former CIA op-turned-traitor-serving-time-in-a-Supermax Jennifer Carpenter is called upon by Morris Chestnut to catch a spy "she knows all too well." In-house. THE INBETWEEN--Not the Britcom (that's "The Inbetweeners"), although Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman is involved, this is a procedural with the gimmick that a woman who can talk to the dead is called upon by the cops to help them solve crimes. In-house (Heymann has a TV deal with NBCU's international division). THE VILLAGE--Or "This Is Us" in a Brooklyn apartment building, with Dominic "Uncle Junior" Chianese, Lorraine Toussaint and Frankie Faison as the names who stick out. In-house. COMEDY: ABBY'S--"Parks and Rec" and "Nine-Nine" co-creator Michael Shur dips his foot in multi-cam sitcoms (with the assistance of director Pamela Fryman--for the pilot) with a show about an unlicensed backyard bar in San Diego where everyone knows your name, like on an NBC show of 30 years ago. Natalie Morales is Abby and Neil Flynn's one of the barflies. In-house. ALTERNATIVE: THE TITAN GAMES--Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson presides over what sounds like a rewrite of "American Gladiators," but with the contestants competing to become one of the Titans and stay there until the end of the season. In-house, with A. Smith & Co., the people behind "Hell's Kitchen" and (more appropriately for this show) "American Ninja Warrior." And in what will either be genius or overkill, "America's Got Talent" will have a winter series subtitled "The Champions," with "AGT" winners facing off against winners from the other "Got Talent" franchises worldwide and presumably with Simon Cowell in the anchor seat on the panel. No indication if Ty-Ty or the rest of the panel will do this series. Fox is officially tomorrow afternoon, along with the f--ked up Univision (if you believe Gizmodo), but if the schedule comes in before...
