Trumpsters cutting up their Nike socks, and Nike-bashing Trump Tweets, do
not appear to be hurting Nike sales or stock price. Predictable, because
middle aged white Red State Trump die-hards are not really in Nike’s core
demo. Maybe Nike would have done this campaign anyway, simply because it is
the morally right thing to do (but I doubt it).

There is room for both Nike and Chick Filet in the market, and options for
those who dont want to patronize either. Socially active consumerism should
aim at encouraging and rewarding socially conscious behavior in niches
where it competes, not total elimination of products disagreed with. In N
Out will be an interesting test - we love their tasty and fresh burgers out
here in CA, but not their Trump boosterism. But perhaps they see an
opportunity to reinvent themselves as a southern and midwestern regional
business. In any case, a lot of Californians in the In N Out demo are not
going to want to be used to help enable Trumpism.
