As many in the press have pointed out, the low ratings weren't CBS's fault. They did everything right, production & promotion-wise, but they were hampered by two teams carrying a lot of baggage into the game, the league's terrible handling of the no-call/blown call incidents in the conference championship games, and of course, the Kapernick situation. This really was (to tie into another CBS property) a Kobayashi Maru situation, and they did the best they could, considering.
