I want to say everybody deserves a chance to develop and ESPN executives
must have seen something in Witten to make them think he was right for the
booth. Romo was a real outlier when he clicked immediately. But compared to
the number of players leaving the league each year there are very few slots
that open up in the broadcast booth or studio panels. Witten wasn't cutting
it and MacFarland was giving more insight.

I like Romo as an analyst. He's the only one where, while watching the
game, I feel happy that he is explaining what's going on.
