The music on soaps have changed- in my grandmom's day it was organ music. By the time i came along(1985) it was precoded.
Not having an announcer is another. Since *Another World* was an P&G soap, it meant hearing Bill Wolff deliver sponsor reads for Crest, Crisco, Head & Shoulders, Ivory, etc. and Crest is still P&G owned.
