I fancied myself a drummer in high school and have always tried to learn more about the greats, but somehow I missed Hal Blaine. To then find that he was the session drummer for just about every Simon & Garfunkel song you can think of, not to mention The Beach Boys as a member of the Wrecking Crew, was pretty amazing. Shortly after i found those tidbits out, my phone rang. My ringtone, of course, is the beginning of "Taste of Honey" by Herb Alpert, featuring drums by .... Hal Blaine. Guy was everywhere. As his family put it, may he rest on the 2 and the 4.
