There is a difference, just as there is a difference between somebody
scoring drugs from a dealer on the street vs somebody scoring drugs from a
doctor in a lab coat. To paraphrase the late Spenser/Jesse Stone author
Robert B Parker, police aren’t in the right and wrong business, they are in
the legal and illegal business. Giving money directly to a school to
influence its admissions policies is legal, but it is also just as wrong as
the indirect methods used by the people who were charged yesterday.
