>From Newsday:

“The 60,000-square-foot Hauppauge satellite facility was built in 1983 for $14
million and was considered state-of-the-art at the time. A Newsday story at the
time said the site would transmit movies, sports and entertainment specials to
3,600 cable systems in mainland United States, and to Puerto Rico and the
Virgin Islands. It also was expected to house program origination operations
that were relocated from a Manhattan studio.
An HBO executive said at the time that the new location would allow HBO to gain
access to satellites in addition to the ones owned and operated by RCA. Long
Island, another executive said, would also provide "easy access" to the main
office in Manhattan and to a talented workforce. ”
