Nobody shows The Amazing Race in the UK anymore (AFAIK), but there was
something similar on the BBC recently called Race Around the World. At
first I thought it was just a UK version of TAR, but the format is very
slightly different - I assume different enough to avoid lawsuits. In RAATW
five pairs have to get from London to Singapore via a number of
checkpoints, the location of which they only get one at a time. They have
limited funds, and there's an elimination round once. Sound familiar?

The difference is that there aren't real tasks like they have in TAR, and
you can't take a plane. This is an overground only competition! Lots of
buses, taxis and trains.

They start with equivalent funds for the airfare to Singapore (I assume a
full retail amount since you can almost certainly fly there more cheaply
than they suggest), and on-screen we get a countdown of the percentage of
their funds they have left. But they can earn money by spending time doing
holiday jobs - all of which have clearly been set up. But a day selling
cold drinks might only earn you $20 in Vietnam, so it's sort of fair.

I stayed with it and quite liked it, even if a lot of the competition is
really created in the edit.
