The Emmy nominees got announced yesterday. Here's Variety's list -
https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/emmys-2019-nominations-complete-list-1203268665/

But I have a couple of questions that spring from these awards.

- The Variety (Special) Live award. Is this a category purposefully built
to hand out awards to other awards shows? Only the Emmys themselves don't
seem to be on the list! I would argue that if this isn't a broad enough
category to include a wider variety of shows, then it should be replaced by
something more useful (e.g. New drama series).

- Structured v Unstructured Reality Programs. I'd love to see the
definitions for this, since while series like Deadliest Catch or Ru Paul's
Drag Race are considered "unstructured" I'm pretty sure they're heavily
"structured" in their production.

- Where would a proper documentary series go? Maybe there's a whole
separate Emmy Awards for them, but the Informational Series or Special
award seems very broad, including Letterman's Netflix show as well as
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Where would a 'proper' documentary series
from someone like Ken Burns go?
