That was a criticism made by some of the one sitcom character she played
(Julia), but I never thought it valid. There are lots of black women, and
Julia was a valid (60s TV) representation of one of them. A more legitimate
criticism in my view was that the show had to be about her living in a
white world, not about her in a black community.
