1. I will take second place to no person in my condemnation of Bush 43 and his incompetent, hateful, anti-intellectual and damaging policies.
2. I don’t think you can put Barack Obama and Ellen DeGeneres in the same category for this discussion. There are lots of reasons that former Presidents should “hang out with” each other - especially when they are from different parties and have strong ideological differences. That really is a big part of what makes American great. 3. Celebrities have less reason to hang out with former US Presidents with whom they not just disagree, but find to have been dangerous and immoral. Ellen made a big deal about her commitment to being kind to people she disagrees with, but this was more than just offering Bush a glass of cold water on a hot day; it was more even than having a private dinner at a friend’s house. By being seen with him in such a hugely public place, she is letting Bush wash and rehabilitate his image and legacy - like maybe all of his gay-bashing policies, and using anti-gay marriage ballot initiatives as raw meat to bring out the hateful fundamentalists in 2004 to win re-election was not really that bad. 4. But in the end, Ellen DeGeneres is allowed to sit next to whoever she wants to at a football game (and really, even if Bush was not there, I would have serious issues with her just sitting next to anyone from the Jones family - as he has basically come out in favor of the view that NFL players are basically slaves on his plantation). With the current state of the nation, I can’t elevate someone being too nice to someone they disagree with to the top rank of things I get excited about. 5. I have not seen Ellen DeGeneres is some years, has she had some kind of ear enlargement surgery, or am I just forgetting that she always looked like that?
