Disney is now offering one free year + subscription for Verizon customers with unlimited wireless Fios & 5G Home Internet: the $6.99/month will then be charged to the Verizon bill. Most analysts see this as a smart way for D+ to jump start, and I agree, though it does make it easier to keep Netflix for a year. I think it will also mean I will not do the Hulu/ESPN+ bundle (already have Hulu, though it soon may be worth less).
Apple is doing something similar giving away a one-year subscription to Apple TV+ with the purchase of new iPhones, Macs, and Apple TV devices. But the Verizon partnership seems a bigger headstart. I need a new Mac, so I may get that too. Linked article reports Disney is early leader in the 4-way race with new streaming services (including NBC and HBO), with more awareness and intent to buy —though the last two start a few months later, so awareness may ramp up for them. Still, in crowded streaming field seems like good idea to get in early. This is consistent with my own focus group results; the only new streaming service my three 20-something kids have been lobbying me for (they all live away from home but vampire off my television cable and streaming) is D+. https://www.google.com/amp/s/variety.com/2019/digital/news/consumer-research-disney-plus-hbo-max-apple-tv-nbc-peacock-1203386807/amp/ On Wed, Aug 7, 2019 at 10:33 PM M-D November <[email protected]> wrote: > The bundle is well-priced for users who already subscribe to Hulu & ESPN+; > personally, since I only subscribe to Hulu, the bundle pricing doesn't do > me any real favors (I mean, I guess it means I get The Ocho Online for > free...).
