Yeah, listening to Newshour on BBC World, they seemed to be struggling to
summarize why Bryant’s death was worth talking about. For me personally as
a a SoCal native, for years Bryant WAS The Lakers. Back in the ‘80s when I
actually followed sports, there were stars on The Lakers, but they were
part of a team. By Kobe’s era, teamwork had devolved to “just get the ball
to Kobe.” While I am obviously biased towards the ‘80s players, there are
maybe a handful of people who could actually take the burden of being a
one-man NBA franchise and run with it, and Kobe Bryant was one of them.
