James Drury was born April 18, 1934 - six days after my father was born.

My dad started smoking when he was sixteen. He stopped smoking in 1980 at
age 46. He died last October from emphysema at age 85. Thirty-nine years
after he stopped smoking, a CAT scan showed his lungs were still as black
as coal.

Not long after Dad passed, I heard an interview with James Drury on The
Carson Podcast. Drury boasted that he still smoked two packs a day - and
that he started smoking at age eight. "I've been smoking for 77 years," he
said.

That interview infuriated me at the time. Now I just feel sorrow for him
and his family.

Rest in peace, Mr. Drury.
