I'm reminded of something William Goldman said in "Adventures in the Screen
Trade." While admitting that "nobody knows anything," he also mentioned that
one of the sure formulas was "movie stars as you want to see them."

The main problem with the show (other than the poor writing) is that they don't
act like the Muppets. In the first two episodes, I think we've seen Kermit for
maybe five minutes (and that's generous). I like Scooter well enough, but I
don't need him uploading videos and playing emcee instead of the frog. Piggy
gets way too much screen time in proportion to her usefulness. Gonzo and Fozzie
have been handled well enough, but unless they're doing the short grotesqueries
that Hanson did on talk and variety shows in the 50s and 60s, the formula works
best with one guest star and the team's attempts to interact with them. I can't
believe Disney (Disney!) can't afford to bring in big names who would love to
play with the Muppets, but that's the apparent thinking.
Of course, the biggest problem is the missing-in-action Johnny Fiamma.

My six-year-old son loved it. I found it almost painfully depressing. At least
"The Muppets" had some structure. This is just garbage.
If Disney doesn't know what to do with them (and they clearly don't) either
sell them to someone who does or retire them.

Sort of a Short Attention Span Theater for Muppets. Lots of quick gags. Too
much Miss Piggy in episode one.
