O'Keefe said the movie was supposed to be a straight forward coming of age comedy about the townie caddies trying to get by working in the country club with its rich members. But then Ramis brought in Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Rodney Dangerfield and changed the focus to their over-the-top antics.
