I think that can be said of most variety shows. I’ve been watching early episodes of Carol Burnett show. Lots of guest stars appeared and did their own thing, including Tim Conway before he was a cast member. Carol attempted some semi-autobiographical sketches that fell very flat, and they had on vaudeville veterans like Bob Hope that felt very forced > The Lasser episode came from before the show hit its stride.
